PPF Calculator – Public Provident Fund Interest & Maturity Calculator

The Public Provident Fund (PPF) is an iconic, government-backed long-term savings instrument in India offering guaranteed returns, sovereign safety, and coveted EEE (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) tax status.

Our PPF Calculator computes your exact maturity balance, yearly accrued interest, and tax-free corpus across the mandatory 15-year tenure and subsequent 5-year extension blocks.

What is the Public Provident Fund (PPF)?

Introduced by the Ministry of Finance, the PPF scheme allows Indian residents to deposit between ₹500 and ₹1,50,000 per financial year.

Interest is determined by the Government of India quarterly (currently 7.1% p.a.) and is compounded annually. The scheme operates with a 15-year statutory lock-in, with unlimited 5-year extensions available.

Key Benefits of the PPF Scheme

Sovereign Guarantee: Zero credit risk as deposits and interest are backed by the Government of India.
Triple Tax Exemption (EEE): Contributions qualify for Section 80C deductions, accrued annual interest is completely tax-free, and maturity payouts are 100% exempt from income tax.
Immunity from Attachment: PPF account balances cannot be attached by any court decree or creditor claims under the PPF Act.

How is PPF Interest Calculated?

Interest is calculated monthly on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month, but credited to the account on March 31st annually:

Calculation Formula
F = P × [ ( (1 + r)^t - 1 ) / r ] × (1 + r)
Parameters Definition
F:Final accumulated PPF corpus upon completion of 15 years.
P:Annual deposit made on or before the 5th of April (Max ₹1.5 Lakh).
r:Annual statutory interest rate (currently 7.1% p.a. or 0.071).
t:Tenure in years (minimum 15 years).
Illustration & Numerical Example

Maxing out PPF with ₹1,50,000 deposited every April for 15 years at 7.1% interest:

• Total Principal Deposited = ₹1,50,000 × 15 = ₹22,50,000
• Total Accrued Interest = ₹18,18,209
Guaranteed Tax-Free Maturity Corpus = ₹40,68,209.
